CBS "chose to cut FIVE important minutes out of my nearly 15 minute interview."
In a thread posted on X, Johnson shared side-by-side clips of what was aired on CBS' "Face the Nation" on television versus what fully took place, which he recorded from his office. In one clip, during which Johnson gave his first-hand account of the hurricane, CBS took out the a large portion of what he said. He said in the thread that CBS "chose to cut FIVE important minutes out of my nearly 15 minute interview."
Johnson wrote with the videos side by side, "I recently traveled to NC and victims of Hurricane Helene told me nearly two weeks after landfall, the Biden-Harris Administration had STILL not provided them with all the resources they desperately needed. But CBS selectively edited OUT ENTIRELY this first-hand perspective."
The House speaker also discussed election integrity issues in the CBS interview, saying that the Biden-Harris Department of Justice has sued the state of Virgina for "systematic programs aimed at removing the names of ineligible voters from voter registration lists" within 90 days of the election.
Johnson was pressed by the CBS host about laws requiring proof of citizenship in federal elections and told Face the Nation's Margaret Brennen that many states do not require proof of citizenship to register to vote. He added that after Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin ordered that the state's voter rolls be cleaned up, "the Biden-Harris administration sued the governor and the state, the Commonwealth of Virginia, to try to prevent them from cleaning up their voter rolls."
Johnson added, in the omitted portion of the interview, "See, that kind of thing creates a lot of doubt and concern in the minds of a lot of the American people."
Further portions of the interview that were omitted by CBS News included those in which Johnson spoke about the Biden-Harris administration's allowing millions of people to come into the country and that many Americans have concerns over illegal immigrants voting in the 2024 election. This comes after the outlet selectively edited its sit-down interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which the outlet has refused to fully disclose.
