Mother of slain student Sheridan Gorman rips Chicago officials for turning a blind eye to rampant murders, including her daughter's

The mother of Sheridan Gorman, a college student allegedly slain by illegal alien Jose Medina, slammed Chicago leadership for turning a blind eye to her daughter's killing. Outside Medina's court hearing last week, Jessica Gorman demanded the city take accountability for its failures to address crime, which she attributed, in part, to her daughter's death.

"Let these murders end," said Jessica Gorman, peering into a Fox News camera. "Every murder is one too many. It doesn't matter who it was, what side of Chicago it happened on; it's too much! Why has Chicago become so desensitized to this human loss?"

"We just feel like all of these failures," continued Jessica, "all of these murders. Every murder matters. It doesn't matter what color you are, where you live, how it happened. Every murder matters."

Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University College student, was shot and killed on March 19 while walking with friends on the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach in Rogers Park, Chicago. Jose Medina, 25, an illegal alien from Venezuela, has been charged with her murder. Medina is a repeat criminal offender with prior arrests in Chicago. He unlawfully entered the US under the Biden administration, authorities said.

Jessica's husband, Thomas Gorman, also attended last week's court hearing. "We will not rest until there's justice and accountability," said Thomas while standing beside Jessica. "Sheridan deserves better. Every victim deserves better. Chicago, you must do better!"

The Gorman family has been very vocal since learning of their daughter's tragic killing. Both Thomas and Jessica have repeatedly called for an end to sanctuary policies for illegal immigrants, which allowed Medina to remain in the US after prior arrests.

"They promise that lessons have been learned, and then they wait for the outrage to pass," said Jessica Gorman, holding back tears. "Then they ask for your trust all over again, and you give it to them. Why is your trust being given without any results?"

Medina faces state charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. He has also been charged in federal court with illegally possessing a firearm.

Medina remains in Cook County custody, and a trial date has not yet been set.
