“In light of the recent strike against aid workers and the ever-worsening humanitarian crisis, we believe it is unjustifiable to approve these weapons transfers."

Several Democratic lawmakers, including former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, have called on President Joe Biden to halt the sale of weapons to Israel as the nation's war against Palestinian terror group Hamas roils on. Hamas staged a massacre of Israelis on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people. They still hold 133 hostages, including 5 Americans.

In a letter signed by Pelosi and other Democratic representatives, the progressives expressed shared concern and outrage over a recent Israeli airstrike that resulted in the deaths of seven humanitarian workers from the World Central Kitchen.

The lawmakers urged President Biden to reconsider his decision to authorize the transfer of a new arms package to Israel and to withhold any future offensive arms transfers until a full investigation into the airstrike is completed.

“In light of the recent strike against aid workers and the ever-worsening humanitarian crisis, we believe it is unjustifiable to approve these weapons transfers,” the letter stated.

The incident referred to by lawmakers occurred when an Israeli airstrike mistakenly hit a World Central Kitchen aid facility in Gaza, resulting in the tragic loss of seven innocent lives. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that they will be conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and taking appropriate actions, including reprimanding senior officials.

The incident has caused many on the left who were already critical of the Jewish state to renew efforts to halt aid provided by the US.

The Biden administration is currently considering a significant military sale to Israel, totaling approximately $18 billion, which would include fighter jets, air-to-air missiles, and munitions, according to the Daily Caller.  This potential sale would be the largest of its kind since the start of the recent conflict.
