NBC News reported Tuesday that election results in the battleground state of Nevada could take up to a week to be announced. The delayed results follow ballot signature verification issues and a recent court ruling allowing the state to count mail-in ballots without post markings up to three days after Election Day.

"Nevada will take a week to count all their votes," NBC News' Chuck Todd said. "This is going to be lawyers upon lawyers litigating which ballots can get fixed or cured, is the language you'll start to see - those provisional ballots."

Nevada is one of seven critical swing states that could decide the next president, and according to the most recent polling averages from RealClearPolling, former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris by just 0.6 percent. President Biden won Nevada by a narrow margin in the 2020 presidential election, collecting 50.1 percent of the vote to Trump's 47.7 percent, data shows.

CNN previously reported that it is "unlikely Americans will go to bed on Election Day knowing who their next president will be." Either candidate's margin of victory will determine whether or not the 2024 election will be a repeat of 2020. Trump or Harris would have to win by a landslide in order for the 47th president of the United States to be announced on Tuesday or early morning Wednesday. If it comes down to one or two single states with narrow margins of victory, the election might very well continue into the next few days as precincts gather absentee and mail-in ballots.

"As polls show a dead heat between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in the final days of the race, news outlets are preparing an anxious nation for the likelihood that election night will stretch into an election week," CNN said.
