The left-wing media activist group Media Matters has laid off at least a dozen staff members following a lawsuit from Elon Musk and a probe from the Missouri and Texas attorneys general.

A staffer at Media Matters posted on X that over a dozen of them were getting laid off from the organization.

"Bad News: I’ve been laid off from [Media Matters], along with a dozen colleagues. There’s a reason far-right billionaires attack Media Matters with armies of lawyers: They know how effective our work is, and it terrifies them (him)," Kat Abu posted online.

Another staffer that was laid off posted, "After nearly four years of working at media matters, I got laid off. So if anyone is looking for researchers with video experience, drop a line."

The report comes after Elon Musk launched a lawsuit against the left-wing activist organization for a report that Musk alleged was manufactured in order to drive advertisers off the platform with allegations of antisemitism. Ben Collins, who works for The Onion, blamed the firings on Elon Musk.

The defamation lawsuit alleged that Media Matters manipulated data in order to place ads from major corporations alongside neo-Nazi propaganda. Missouri and Texas Attorneys General Andrew Bailey and Ken Paxton also launched probes for fraud into the organization for allegedly manipulating data on the platform.

Most recently, Bailey halted an attempt from the organization to stop his case by going to a DC court. At the time Bailey posted online, “Media Matters is attempting to shut down Missouri courts. They filed a motion to HALT our investigation and lawsuit into their fraudulent practices. D.C. courts have no say over Missouri courts. I have filed a motion to protect our ability to litigate in Missouri.”

Media Matters attempted to file a claim in the ongoing case brought by Bailey in a DC court when the original case's jurisdiction was in Missouri. In the motion to stop the move from Media Matters, the AG wrote in the motion, "How shocking it would be if the Missouri Attorney General asked a state court to issue an order preventing this Court from hearing this case."

This is a breaking story. Refresh for updates.
