ABC's Jonathan Karl interview with Steven K. Bannon aired on Sunday, just one day before the War Room host and former Trump adviser is set to report to federal prison in Danbury, Conn. Bannon was sentenced to four months for contempt of Congress, a conviction he earned by defying a subpoena from the J6 committee, which to many was an entirely illegitimate committee.

Bannon spoke about what officials he feels should be investigated in a potential Trump second term, and as for that probability, he said "Right now, he is going to win by a landslide. It's going to be 340 or 350 votes."

Karl asked Bannon about comments he'd made about top Biden or "deep state" officials who may face prosecution under a second Trump term. "Some of those who serves Trump and crossed him," Karl asked, "say they're worried. Stephanie Grisham who was the communications director, the press secretary, communications director for—chief of staff for the first lady."

Bannon said he was not at all talking about people of that caliber. "That's ridiculous," he said, before going on to say that he was talking about "people in positions of authority."

Karl jumped in with some ideas, such as "Andrew McCabe, the Former Deputy of FBI—he says he's going to have to leave the country."

"He ought to be worried," Bannon said. "He is definitely going to be investigated, so is Comey, so is Esper, I believe Milley will." Karl seemed incredulous that the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs could be investigated. Bannon explained "we don't know what conversations he had outside the military chain of command when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, when he talked to the Chinese, when he talked to Nancy Pelosi. We have to investigate all of that. If you haven't done anything, you shouldn't worry." Bannon also said that "Bill Barr has to be investigated."

Only two days after the J6 riot in 2021, General Mark Milley had a phone call with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in which they discussed the potential for Trump to use military force to stay in the White House. Instead, he left, as all previous presidents have.

"This is bad, but who knows what he might do?" Ms. Pelosi said, per Bob Woodward and Robert Costa's book Peril. "He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy. He’s been crazy for a long time. So don’t say you don’t know what his state of mind is."

"Madam Speaker," General Milley said, "I agree with you on everything." Milley went on to say, per the Peril records, "The one thing I can guarantee is that, as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I want you to know that — I want you to know this in your heart of hearts, I can guarantee you 110 percent that the military, use of military power, whether it’s nuclear or a strike in a foreign country of any kind, we’re not going to do anything illegal or crazy."

For Bannon, "It's not retribution. It's justice."

Karl complained that Bannon's rhetoric could be incendiary and brought up the "death threats" received by Dr. Anthony Fauci, among others. Bannon said "what do you mean death threats? Do you think I don't get death threats and have security all the time? That comes when you play at the highest levels. It just comes."

Karl also asked that question that so many on the left ask those on the right but never ask people on the left, if Bannon would "respect the poll results, win or lose?"

"Are you going to pull this? Is this your question?" Bannon asked with obvious disgust.

"There will be no violence?" Karl continued.

"Have you asked a Democrat this question? Yes or no? The answer is no. Have you asked a Democrat that question?" Bannon asked.

"I haven't seen Democrats storm the Capitol to try to stop an election," Karl said.

"Here's the bottom line," Bannon said after some contentious back and forth, "When this is adjudicated and reviewed, if they are certifiable, chain of custody, ballots and votes from American citizens, then hey, whatever that outcome is, it is totally fair. Until the time that we get that, all bets are off." He went on to say "We're winning at the ballot box here. You know why? Over 50 percent of the American people right now, including 80 percent of Republicans, believe the 2020 election was illegitimate. That Joe Biden's illegitimate because of problems with the 2020 election, okay?"

"Do you know why we're winning now?" He said later. "Do you see why we're winning? Because people are inspired by that. They're volunteering. Hundreds of thousands. And an army of the awakened. That's what Biden's going to meet come October and November when voting starts."
