In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump advocated for the cancelation of the late night talk shows helmed by Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon. This comes after CBS canceled The Late Show with host Stephen Colbert. That show will run through the end of the season.

"The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone," Trump said in his post. "These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!"

Trump applauded Colbert's demise even as Colbert told Trump "go f*ck yourself" from the stage of his late night show. Jon Stewart used his Daily Show platform to say that Trump was to blame for Colbert's cancelation because CBS needs the Trump administration's approval for a massive, $8 billion merger they are engaged in. Both late night hosts blamed Trump for Colbert's cancelation, not the $40 million in losses CBS is experiencing every year. Protestors outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, where The Late Show films in New York, also blamed Trump.

Fallon spoke about the Colbert cancellation on his show, saying "I am your host. Well, at least for tonight. I don't like it. I don't like what's going on one bit. These are crazy times. This morning, my dad called me and said he's officially a Kimmel guy. I go, wait, what? That's right. Everybody is talking about CBS's decision to end the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and many people are now threatening to boycott the network. CBS could lose millions of viewers, plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount plus. Stephen has done years of incredibly smart and hilarious television, and he's won 10 Emmys. Trump heard and was like 'big deal, last week I won a FIFA World Cup trophy." He joked that while it's only been six months since Trump took office, many Americans feel like "it's been ten years."
