CBC journalist Ashley Burke falsely accused the Poilievre family of nepotism in a press conference today in Ottawa. This was an attempt to equate the practices of Conservative MP Michael Cooper to that of a Liberal MP who had hired her sister.
CBC journalist Ashley Burke asks MP Michael Cooper about employing Anaida Poilievre, wife of MP Pierre Poilievre, in an attempt to relate it to a Liberal MP hiring her sister.
Anaida has worked for MP Cooper since before she was married and has worked on the Hill since 2008. pic.twitter.com/7tIB7Mhd5i

What this CBC journalist failed to mention, however, was that Anaida Poilievre had been working in parliament long before she married the shadow Finance Minister. In fact, Mrs. Poilievre took her position on Parliament Hill in 2008; going on to marry Pierre in 2017.
As a result of this, her relationship with Pierre Poilievre was clearly not the reason for her hiring.
All of these facts could have been easily discovered through a ten-minute Google search, yet the CBC journalist failed to fact-check her question before she slandered Mrs. Poilievre on national television.
Worse still, the CBC revel in sanctimony when it comes to journalist practices. Yet when it comes to being truthful about Conservatives, these rules seem not to apply.
In a statement on Twitter, Anaida Poilievre accused the CBC journalist of "poor journalism."
Mrs. Poilievre then went on to recount her career path: "I applied for a job in the Senate, and after a rigorous interview process through Senate Human Resources, I got a one-month contract with Independent Senator Marcel Prud'homme. I worked really hard and he renewed my contract."
"Since then, I have worked for numerous Senators and moved up, continued Mrs. Poilievre. "I worked for the Government Whip in the Senate and the Leader in the Senate. All prior to my marriage to Pierre Poilievre."
"I am proud of my 10+ years in politics, but the CBC thinks I should be fired because of the person I chose to marry," she concluded.
The CBC journalist has not yet made a public comment on the matter.
Mrs. Poilievre received support on social media, with one former co-worker saying "she earned her jobs with hard work and talent."
I had the honour and pleasure to work with Ana over the years. She’s good at what she does. She just happened to meet the love of her life while working. Happens a lot. She earned her jobs with hard work and talent. I can say that her relationship with Pierre was NOT widely known https://t.co/Tya58U4ZLX

Pierre Poilievre also chimed in and said that his wife was a "self-made woman who fought for all she has. She made it on merit."
CBC attacked my wife, saying she only has a career bcuz of me.Check the facts:
Ana came to Ottawa knowing no one, taught herself English, paid her way thru school & got a Hill job 3 yrs BEFORE we met.
Self-made woman. Fought for all she has. Made it on merit.
I ?? this woman https://t.co/0t5ZW1VK4x
