During her eulogy at Daunte Wright’s funeral on Thursday in Minneapolis, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) used the opportunity to praise her own position in Congress and criticize Columbus Police for the death of Ma’Khia Bryant.
Omar began by praising the previous speaker race baiter Al Sharpton, who was instrumental in causing the riots in Crown Heights and at Freddy's Fashion Mart in the 1990’s which led to multiple deaths.
"Thank you, Reverend Al Sharpton, for being here, and for that beautiful eulogy. Most of us in this room, including myself, look at you as a guardian, and are blessed to be in your presence."
Ilhan Omar says that Daunte Wright will be a “guardian for all of us” from beyond the grave.
Daunte Wright choked a woman, pointed a gun at her head, stuffed his hand down her shirt and tried to steal her rent money shortly before he died.

Omar continued, by focusing on her position in Congress. "May Daunte Wright serve as a guardian for all of us. But as a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, as one of the youngest and newest members of the Congressional Black Caucus , I also have guardians: Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and our chairwoman, Joyce Beatty, serve as guardians for me and many of my colleagues."
Omar then explained the absence of Rep Joyce Beatty, who was in Columbus, Ohio following the death of Ma’Kiah Bryant who was fatally shot by an officer while attempting to stab another woman.
"Joyce Beatty was going to be here and speak on our behalf as the chairwoman of our caucus; but just like we’ve been visited by tragedy here in Minnesota often, she, in Columbus, Ohio, was visited by a tragedy of a young woman whose life was taken by Columbus Police."
Omar continued by reading a resolution of congressional condolences for Wright’s family filed by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and then presented Wright’s parents with an American flag that flew over the US Capitol in Wright’s memory.
Daunte Wright was a very very bad person. He victimized women in horrific ways. He was a predator and a dangerous man. He does not deserve to be canonized. Ask the woman who he choked, robbed, and assaulted. She might have some insight into this.

According to court records, Wright had an open warrant for his arrest related to an aggravated armed robbery attempt and a misdemeanor weapons charge when he was killed. While officers were trying to arrest him, Wright broke free and attempted to enter his car at which point officer Kim Potter drew her firearm thinking it was her taser and fatally shot Wright.
Riots erupted in Brooklyn Center and nearby Minneapolis following the officer-involved death of Wright. Former police officer Kim Potter, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.
