O’Toole Conservatives SLAM Trudeau Liberals’ internet bill
“This is unacceptable in a society that values its freedom. Canadians expect the government to protect their freedoms, not invade them.”

The Conservative Party has called on Justin Trudeau's Heritage Minister to scrap their plans to regulate and censor the internet.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Conservatives said that they "support creating a level playing field between large foreign streaming services and Canadian broadcasters, but not at the cost of Canadians’ fundamental rights and freedoms."
"We are calling on the Trudeau Liberals to scrap the proposed changes to Bill C-10 and end their attempt to regulate social media," they added.
The Conservatives, however, saved their harshest words for last: "This is unacceptable in a society that values its freedom. Canadians expect the government to protect their freedoms, not invade them."
This is just the latest condemnation of the Liberal internet censorship bill.
In a statement provided to the National Post, Peter Menzies, who is the former commissioner of the CRTC, said that this legislation was a "full-blown assault" on free expression and ‘the foundations of democracy.’
Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault defended his internet bill again yesterday, saying that it was necessary and unsurprising, according to Blacklock's Reporter.
"Online platforms that act as broadcasters would be included in the legislation," he said. "This is exactly what the amendments that have been debated in committee are trying to do."
