“I can guarantee you … that in about ten years there’s not gonna have been a single Trump supporter that exists anywhere in the country,” Kinzinger said.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) has long been critical of former President Donald Trump and the events that took place on January 6, 2021, stances that have been challenged by his Republican colleagues and right-wing media.
On Sunday during an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, the GOP congressman brushed off the fact that the number of Republicans who view Jan. 6 as a legitimate protest has gone up, suggesting that in ten years, nobody in the country would even admit that they had voted for Trump.

"There's a lot of recent polling showing that the number of Republicans over the last year who view this as a legitimate protest on January 6, and not an insurrection, has actually dramatically risen," Stephanopoulos began. "How do you explain that?"
"I think on the margins, yes, it is puncturing through," Kinzinger replied. "What's most important is, again, what does history say in five or ten years?"
"I can guarantee you, well about as close to guarantee," Kinzinger continued, "that in about ten years there's not gonna have been a single Trump supporter that exists anywhere in the country."
He went on to suggest that Trump would go the way of Nixon. "There were a lot of people who supported Nixon, until he was out of office, then everybody was like, 'no, nobody supported Nixon'."
"We live in a media environment," Kinzinger added, "where you get your media from wherever kind of reinforces whatever you already believe." He referred to Trump as essentially "a cult leader," suggesting that certain media organizations simply parrot his talking points without a second thought.
He also accused "most" GOP members of Congress of "abusing their constituents" with the statements they've made on particular issues.
Kinzinger, who serves on the Jan. 6 Committee, failed to mention the differences between Trump and Nixon, such as the fact that even after Trump lost the 2020 election, his supporters continue to turn out in droves to see him speak.
Despite his unsuccessful run for a second term, Trump has remained a commanding figure within the Republican Party, with the candidates he endorses going on to win in many cases.
