Arizona Sec. of State suggests replacing voting machines she said were ‘unhackable’ over worries GOP could hack them
Sec. of State Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) who is also Arizona’s chief elections officer said on Thursday that all voting machines need to be replaced because they may have been hacked and may be “unusable” for future elections.
Sec. of State Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) who is also Arizona's chief elections officer said on Thursday that all voting machines need to be replaced because they may have been hacked and may be "unusable" for future elections.
The machines in question were turned over to a third-party auditing firm, Cyber Ninjas, based in FL, in order to independently review the results given by the machines during the 2020 election and rule out any suspicion of foul play. The machines have been in Cyber Ninjas' custody since the final days of April 2021.
Hobbs feels that the machines may be compromised in their ability to do their job properly, saying that there are now "grave concerns regarding the security and integrity" of the machines, and that they should be disqualified for use in future elections. Without specifically naming Cyber Ninjas, Hobbs continues:
"Unfortunately, after a loss of physical custody and control, no comprehensive methods exist to fully rehabilitate the compromised equipment or provide adequate assurance that they remain safe to use."
"While the machines could be put through an intensive and costly forensic examination by an accredited, national forensics laboratory, even after such forensic examination, machines are generally not recommissioned given that the forensic analysis cannot be guaranteed to locate all potential problems."
Almost 2.1M votes were counted using the Maricopa County elections machines during the Nov. 20 2020 elections. Maricopa was one of the most hotly-contested counties in the election.
