A 29-year-old registered sex offender was arrested after allegedly attempting to enroll in a Minnesota high school while posing as a teenage girl, marking the second time he has been accused of such a scheme. The incident comes just two years after he was sentenced to jail for a similar attempt in Oregon.
Transgender-identifying Makayla Craig is accused of trying to enroll at Maple Grove High School, which is located in a suburb outside of Minneapolis. Craig claimed to be a 17-year-old homeless girl named Molly from Oregon.

View on XAccording to a report by KARE 11, a criminal complaint stated that Maple Grove police were notified by a concerned school staff member about an individual attempting to enroll as a homeless youth. During an interview with police, Craig claimed he had never attended school before and wanted to "get the full experience." He also reportedly told law enforcement that he was worried he would be mistaken for Makayla Craig, a registered sex offender in Oregon.
Craig was identified as the Oregon sex offender and was subsequently arrested.
"Craig never completed enrollment with Maple Grove Senior High School, and he was never present on campus as a student or in any online classes," police said. "The Maple Grove Police Department credits the school district staff for their alertness with the incident, quick action to notify a school resource officer, and collaboration in the investigation. The case remains an active and ongoing investigation."
Craig’s original name is Alec Ray Craig, according to Reduxx. His social media showed him referring to himself as a “femboi,” “furry,” and a “therian,” which means he identifies as a non-human animal.
In 2024, Craig was sentenced to 40 days in jail after successfully enrolling in an Oregon high school by posing as a 15-year-old homeless girl named Madison. He has also been convicted of fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery, false swearing, and sexual abuse of a minor. He reportedly failed to appear in court in July, prompting a warrant for his arrest.
Craig is being held in Hennepin County Jail on a $200,000 bail. Conditions include no contact with minors, staying at least three blocks away from schools, and not contacting Maple Grove High School. His next court date is scheduled for November 18.
