A surveillance video captured the horrific attack of a beauty supply store owner in Houston on St. Patrick’s Day, leaving her with a broken nose as the perpetrators hurled racial epithets at her.
The business owner, Jung Kim, told Click 2 Houston that she was punched in the face by a customer that left her bloodied and bruised.
Owner Jung Kim, who is of Korean descent, believes the attack was racially motivated.
During the horrific assault, Kim said her nose was broken so badly that she is now needing surgery to repair the bodily damage.
Kim’s son, Sung Jun Lee, told Click 2 Houston that his mother remembers the women yelling “You little Asian girl” as she was being beaten.
According to Click 2 Houston, trouble within the store started after Keaundra Young, Daquiesha Williams and three other women knocked over several wig displays thus resulting in Kim asking them to leave.
Daquiesha Williams (left) and Keaundra Young (right) are seen in mug shots released by the Houston Police Department on March 23, 2021.
“They started saying something like some racial words like, ‘Asian people shouldn’t be in the Black market,’” said Kim’s son Lee. “We’re stealing their money.”
Surveillance video shows the women returned to the store after being asked to leave and knocked over several wig displays. Keaundra Young, who is Black, began to charge Kim and punched her at least eight times.
The women attacked Lee as he tried to fend off the attackers from his mother and scratched his face. The brutal assaults ended in the parking lot after the women attempted to run over Lee and his father, ultimately fleeing the scene.
“We never thought this would happen to us,” Lee said. “All of my customers are nice to us. We are nice to them. We have a good environment here and a good experience here.”
The attack left customers shocked.
“I think that’s terrible,” said customer Valerie Randle. “I don’t see any reason for anyone to do that to her. She helps whoever. She helps when you come to the store with whatever you need.”
According to Click 2 Houston, Williams has been charged with assault and Young has been charged with aggravated assault.
