Autopsy reveals Gabby Petito died of strangulation

According to the New York Post, Teton County Coroner Brent Blue revealed that the 22-year-old was strangled to death, but could not pinpoint exactly when she died. The body of Petito was reportedly exposed to the elements and wildlife of the Bridger-Teton National Forest for three to four weeks.

Blue said toxicology tests have yet to be completed, noting that "nothing is obvious in a situation like this." He referred additional questions to the FBI, stating that "by Wyoming state statue only the cause and manner of death are released."

The only other information Blue revealed was that Petito was not pregnant when she died. Petito went missing in August while she was on a cross country road trip with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. Her body was discovered on Sept. 19, nearly three weeks after Laundrie returned home to Florida without her.

In the announcement of her discovery on Sept.19, Blue declared that Petito's death was a homicide, but the cause of death had not been revealed until now.

An FBI warrant has been issued for Laundrie, who was reported as missing on Sept. 17, for allegedly committing debit card fraud between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1.

Laundrie is listed as the only person of interest in regards to the death of Petito.

A massive manhunt has been underway under the lead of the FBI, with a focus on the 25,000-acre Carlton Reserve where Laundrie was last noted as hiking in the area, but also pursuing reported sightings as far off as the Appalachian Trail near the North Carolina/Tennessee border.
