President Biden says Pope called him a ‘good Catholic’ who should take communion
This was in response to questions within the American Catholic Church, where officials have asked whether Biden should be allowed to receive communion due to his stance on abortion.
President Biden has said that Pope Francis described him as a "good Catholic." Biden also relayed a conversation he had with the Pope to reporters, where the Pope said he should be able to continue receiving communion, according to The New York Times.
This was in response to questions within the American Catholic Church, where officials have asked whether Biden should be allowed to receive communion due to his stance in favor of abortion.
Biden recently had a 75-minute meeting with the Pope, after which reporters asked the president whether the subject of communion came up. The Pope, on the other hand, refused to comment, saying that the meeting was "a private conversation."
The Vatican did not make the meeting public, ostensibly over coronavirus protocol. They later released a statement saying the president and the pope had spoken "on the joint commitment to the protection and care of the planet, the health care situation and the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the theme of refugees and assistance to migrants."
Rival figures within the Vatican were not pleased with Biden's and other American politician's stance on abortion. Cardinal Raymond Burke said that it was a "long-term and gravely scandalous situation of Catholic politicians" who support abortion.
