View on XVideo showed the agitators screaming “you are corrupt,” and many ignored NYPD officers’ demands to “back up” when they were setting up the barricades. Reports indicated that ICE was planning on conducting an immigration raid in the area before the agitators showed up.
With New York City electing incoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani, it is unclear what approach he will take with illegal immigration. On the campaign trail, he signaled that the Trump administration would not be able to conduct ICE enforcement as under Adams. But after his cordial meeting with Trump at the White House, it remains to be seen what policy New York City will have under his tenure.
