During an Oval Office press conference after President Donald Trump met with socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec grilled Mamdani on an anti-white policy the mayor-elect proposed during his campaign.

Posobiec asked Mamdani about his policy proposal that would "shift the tax burden from overtaxed homeowners in the outer boroughs to more expensive homes in richer and whiter neighborhoods."

Mamdani dodged the question, talking about how he focused on affordability as well as the cost of living in the Big Apple. He did say that he would push to advance property tax reforms, and then added the policy was a "description of the neighborhoods and not a description of intent."

During the press conference, Trump congratulated Mamdani on winning the mayoral race and said he feels "very confident that he can do a very good job." Many had expected, or perhaps hoped for, fireworks between the two, but instead they appeared as the best of friends, with Trump seeming more mentor than political adversary.

"I just want to congratulate– I think you're going to have, hopefully, a really great bear– The better he does, the happier I am. I will say there's no difference in party. There's no difference in anything, and we're going to be helping him to make everybody's dream come true, having a strong and very safe New York," Trump said.

Trump said Mamdani would "surprise" some conservative people and that he hopes for great success for Mamdani and also the city that both men call home. There has been significant derogatory comments made between the two men and their supports as Mamdani campaigned for Gracie Mansion, but during the press questions, they both walked it back, saying that they planned to work together.

Neither would get into details about what was discussed in the meeting, though peace in the Middle East was likely part of that agenda as well as local New York City issues. Mamdani praised the president for seeking that peace and said that his constituents who voted for Trump, many of whom apparently also voted for Mamdani, did so because of their interest in bringing peace to that region.

"Some of his ideas are the same ideas that I have," Trump said of Mamdani's economic plans. Mamdani has proposed free buses, city run grocery stores, rent freezes, and seizing property from landlords who do not comply with repair orders and regulations.

"I think that there are many things in our city where we have to own the responsibility of it, things that existed long before the President was the president, and those are also part of the message of our campaign was to take on a broken politics of the past, and I ran against a number of candidates who represented different versions of that past. And what we found, time and again, is that working people were left behind in the politics of our city, and what we're looking to do is put those people right back at the heart of our politics, so that we don't have a situation where we're in the wealthiest city in the history of the world, and yet one in five can't even afford $2.90 for a metro card," Mamdani said.

Trump commiserated with Mamdani on those costs, saying, "We had some interesting conversation, and you know some of his ideas are the same ideas I have. But a big thing on cost, you know; the new word is affordability. Another word is just groceries. You know, it's sort of an old-fashioned word, but it's, it's very accurate, and they're coming down. They're coming down high. They were, you know, we had, both of us. We had the highest inflation in the history of our country the last four years under the Biden administration. And we've got inflation down now to a normal number. It's going to go even a little bit lower than that."

When asked if he affirms calling Trump a "fascist," Mamdani tried to deflect, but Trump told him, "Just say yes, it's easier, I don't mind." Mamdani also was not at all perturbed about the House resolution condemning the horrors of socialism and stated again that he is a Democratic Socialist.

The meeting has been anticipated since earlier this week when Trump said he would consider meeting with Mamdani then confirmed that the meeting would be on Friday.
