BREAKING: Actress Shelley Duvall dead at 75

According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, Duvall's longtime partner since 1989, Dan Gilroy, told the outlet, “My dear, sweet, wonderful life partner and friend left us. Too much suffering lately, now she’s free. Fly away, beautiful Shelley."

Duvall was born and raised in Texas and left the state to go to Hollywood in the mid-1990s. She starred in many of Robert Altman’s movies, including “McCabe and Mrs. Miller,” “Thieves Like Us,” “Nashville,” “Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull’s History Lesson” and “3 Women.”

When asked by the NYT why she kept choosing to work with Altman, she said, “He offers me d*mn good roles. None of them have been alike. He has a great confidence in me, and a trust and respect for me, and he doesn’t put any restrictions on me or intimidate me, and I love him.”

“I remember the first advice he ever gave me: ‘Don’t take yourself seriously.’ Sometimes I find myself feeling self-centered, and then all of a sudden that bit of advice will pop into my head and I’ll laugh," she added at the time.

She retired from acting in 2002 after her appearance in “Manna from Heaven,” however, she went back to the movie industry for a short time for the indie movie “The Forest Hills” in 2023 as her final acting role. In a 2016 episode of Dr. Phil she revealed that she struggled with mental health, per the New York Post.
