BREAKING: LA mayor will shut off water and power to homes that host parties

In a press conference on Wednesday, Garcetti called the recent parties in the Hollywood Hills and Calabasas, which includes the highly publicized party YouTube celebrity Jake Paul threw two weeks ago, as “flagrant violations of health orders.” “While we have already closed all bars and nightclubs, these large hour parties have essentially become nightclubs,” said the mayor.

He added that parties at private residences would also be held to the same scrutiny. The mayor said that if the LAPD has to respond to repeated complaints and verifies these residential violations, the city will within 48 hours have their power and water cut off as punishment.

He also indicated that county health inspectors and other officials will be on the lookout for violations. Presumably, these violations do not extend to massive street protests and gatherings of mostly young people if they are done in the name of Black Lives Matter, City representatives and even Mayor Garcetti himself participated in some of these massive protests, just as Los Angeles residents were forced to abide by strict lockdown and social distancing regulations.

Garcetti justified his orders, stating that those in violation of the social distancing rules were simply breaking the law and would have to suffer the consequences.

“You’re breaking the law. Just as we can shut down bars breaking alcohol laws,” he said, “in places that are in criminal violations, we can shut them down.” “We can actually do the power or water shutoff after a first violation, but we like to educate, not enforce,” he added. “We will not act lightly. But we will act.”
