‘Catholic’ influencer who detransitioned says he’s going back to living as a ‘woman’

Neeza Powers, a biological male, had spent years living as a transgender woman named Nicole and detransitioned in 2025. It was after that that he began posting about becoming a Christian. In a video posted on Wednesday, Powers, wearing women’s clothing, spoke about the decision to transition once again.

"I don’t know if my priest agrees with how I represent myself in the world now. I couldn't hate myself any longer. The self-loathing I've had for the last eight months has been excruciating. And I know you're thinking that's just your sin talking, but it's not. This is me talking, and I have a hard time understanding how what I look like and what I wear is a sin in the eyes of God. I don't think it is.

"I think that me following the greatest commandment to love the Lord with all of your heart is more important. I think that God looks at the heart, while people look at the outward. I believe in the Holy Scriptures. I believe in the Lord Jesus. My heart is better to serve him without hating myself. My heart is better as a partner to Charlotte, without hating my existence, enforcing an identity on myself, and my heart is better to serve my community this way. I couldn't hate myself any longer."

In a post following the video, Powers wrote, "It’s time I STOP being who 'Christians' say I should be, and be the WOMAN CHRIST knows and loves."

Powers has been documenting finding a church, going to different branches such as Episcopalian, Baptist, Adventist, and other churches, before settling on Catholic. He has been in adult classes known as Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and had been partnered with the Christian prayer app Hallow. Per Protestia, Hallow said that their current engagement with Powers will be up in May, and will not be renewed.

Powers had planned to enter the Catholic Church officially on Easter, but his priest reportedly said that he wasn’t ready. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Powers said that he had attended some Masses dressed as a woman, wearing makeup and a veil.

Powers, born Thomas Ryan Powers, has claimed to have transitioned for the first time in his mid-teens, however, Protestia reported that he transitioned around the age of 30, and is nearly a decade older than he claims to be.

Allie Beth Stuckey said in response to Powers’ transitioning once again, "It is absolutely legitimate and right and loving for us to say, 'Dude, you're going in the wrong direction.' I don't even know if this person really thinks that he is a woman or what he's trying to do. I think that obviously something is going on there that's wrong and it's evil and perhaps unstable."

She added "To me, the bigger issue seems to be that he is a pathological liar and that he has created a character to gain a following and he has been very successful at it. That is a very difficult temptation to resist and so I think that he is sowing confusion here in trying to seek affirmation and gain attention." She said her response to him was "we pray for him."

St. Croix Valley Young Republicans chairman Brady Penfield wrote, "This is not okay. Pray for him. Someone who is actively transitioning is not in the proper state to be baptized/confirmed into the Catholic Church. From the little I know, his Priest advised against him getting baptized into the Church this Easter for that very reason. You must be mentally prepared to receive the sacraments and accept all the Church’s teachings that come with it. Also, Neeza isn’t Catholic, he is a catechumen."
