The Starrville Methodist Church in Winona TX was the scene of a church shooting this Sunday morning which left one parishioner dead and several others wounded.
The incident occurred around 9:20 in the morning. Strangely, the shooting did not occur in the middle of a church service, and there were few people present within the church.
The suspect fled the scene but was quickly tracked down and arrested, according to Dallas News.
Winona is a small town approximately 100 miles east of Dallas, located just off of Interstate 20 in Smith County, not far from the Louisiana state border.
Sargent Larry Christian of Smith County TX mentioned "I don't think it's going to be any kind of hate motivation or anything," as officials are still investigating possible motives for the crime.
Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, said in a statement:
"Our hearts are with the victims and the families of those killed or injured in this terrible tragedy. I am grateful for the law enforcement officers who apprehended the suspect, and ask Texans to join Cecilia and me in praying for those affected by this horrific shooting."
Abbot also mentioned that Texas authorities will work "to ensure that justice is served and that the Starrville community has the resources it needs during this time."
