Elon Musk invites Americans to move to Starbase, Texas
After another SpaceX test flight on Tuesday, Musk tweeted out that people should “consider moving to Starbase,” or to the “greater Brownsville/South Padre area in Texas & encourage friends to do so!”
Elon Musk is trying to incorporate the city of Starbase, Tex., and he thinks people should definitely move there. After another SpaceX test flight on Tuesday, Musk tweeted out that people should "consider moving to Starbase," or to the "greater Brownsville/South Padre area in Texas & encourage friends to do so!"
The incentive, Musk wrote, is not just the locale but the jobs he plans to provide for that area. He said that SpaceX has need of engineers, technicians, builders and essential support personnel. His company, and Starbase, are "growing rapidly."
He followed up by saying that "Starbase will grow by several thousand people over the next year or two."
Many replied to Musk's tweets with their own intentions, some saying that they would be very interested in both moving to Starbase and working for SpaceX.
Musk appears to be very committed to his adopted community. The eventual Starbase will be in a currently unincorporated area, Boca Chica Village. This is also where SpaceX is currently housed, according to local news.
The SpaceX entrepreneur and Tesla CEO has already made a substantial investment in the area. In addition to moving his SpaceX operations to southern Texas, he gave a substantial donation to Cameron County and Brownsville. The funds included $20 million for schools, and $10 million for a downtown revitalization project.
Tesla is about to put down roots in Del Valle, which is southeast of Austin. This will be a "massive manufacturing 'gigafactory'" for Tesla and is slated to open May 1.
This new factory, which will also build a Cybertruck pickup, should do much to alleviate unemployment problems in the area, which local leaders claim are near 25 percent. In addition to the 'gigafactory,' which should employ about 5,000 middle-skill jobs, there will be all the peripheral jobs for people that will be required to support those new employees.
