Ex-NYC Fireman blasts city officials over vaccine mandate: ‘You’ll let me rush into a burning building but not eat in a restaurant’
“I was allowed to work through the pandemic, but I wasn’t allowed to eat in a restaurant,” Fogarty exclaimed, referencing the city’s vaccine mandate for dining. “I could wear the uniform, go to a burning building, but not eat here.”
In November 2021, former New York mayor Bill de Blasio’s vaccine mandate for city employees went into effect despite weeks of protest. In the months since, many first responders who chose not to get the jab have spoken out about how they’ve been treated.
On Thursday, former FDNY captain Brendan Fogarty aired his grievances during a city council meeting.

“I was a captain for the New York City Fire Department,” Fogarty began, adding that after twenty years he “went from being essential to being disposable from the mandates.”
“My religious exemption was denied,” he continued, explaining that instead of receiving the vaccination, he chose to retire.”
“I would love to go back to my job,” Fogarty said. “I gave my best years to this city; twenty years from twenty-one to forty-one, and then they take it away at the peak of my earning career. I made it to captain; I went through that process. You should be ashamed of yourselves!”
He went on to suggest that those who pushed the policies, including current NYC mayor Eric Adams, would be “on the wrong side of history.”
“The people who looked by are the same people who thought slavery was okay, the same people who thought segregation at Shea Stadium was okay. You segregated us!”
“I was allowed to work through the pandemic, but I wasn’t allowed to eat in a restaurant,” Fogarty exclaimed, referencing the city’s vaccine mandate for dining. “I could wear the uniform, go to a burning building, but not eat here.”
“What’s wrong with you people?” he concluded. “Trust the science. You guys are f*cked up!”
Before being elected mayor, Eric Adams vowed to “revisit” the mandate for city employees, however nearly a year later, the requirement is still in place.
As PIX11 reports, disgruntled former employees who were forced to leave their jobs after declining to get vaccinated have expressed their ire and urged the mayor to do away with the mandates, but their efforts have been fruitless.
