‘Fascist Blueprint’: Dinesh D’Souza explains the left’s obsession with mask mandates

"Mandates don't just apply to the vaccines," Ingraham said, showing a clip of Dr. Leana Wen, former head of Planned Parenthood and current CNN medical analyst, saying that mask mandates should surely make a comeback.

Wen said that "If there is proof of vaccination, and everybody is fully vaccinated, then you can take off your mask," but that given all the factors, "it's time for us to reinstate some of these masking mandates while in the meantime ideally aiming for proof of vaccination so that we can really boost up our vaccination numbers."

For Ingraham and her guests, the concept of punishing Americans for choosing not to take a medication is a horrifying thought.

"It's very creepy," D'Souza said, "that you see not only the government trying to use the full extent of its power to coerce its own citizens, but as you mentioned earlier," he said, "it's an effort to kind of recruit the private sector into imposing its punishments."

This could be a constitutional question, D'Souza said, asking "whether the government can enlist private sector agencies to do what the government itself may be constitutionally forbidden from doing.

"In other words," he said, "think if the government hired a private agency to do unreasonable search and seizure. Could they get away with it by the fact that the government can't do it so they're just going to get private companies to do it?"

D'Souza called this the "fascist blueprint," which he defined as "a merger of the government with the private sector to kind of bring all the citizens into lockstep."

Wen has previously said that American's freedoms should be withheld if they refuse vaccination and that it should be "hard for Americans to remain unvaccinated."

The Biden administration has said unequivocally that they would not institute any kind of "vaccine credential," what are being called vaccine passports, but that they would potentially be working with the private sector in the event that companies wanted to create their own credential. The White House also said that the Biden administration would "certainly" support states re-imposing COVID-19 restrictions.
