Fiance of murdered journalist launches IVF fundraiser after harvesting his sperm after death

On the GoFundMe page of Casey Fite, she revealed that doctors were able to posthumously obtain sperm from Lyons at her request, and she now needs $50,000 to implant it to keep "Dylan's legacy alive."

"My name is Casey Fite and the love of my life, my fiancé, Dylan Lyons Spectrum 13 news reporter was ambushed and murdered while covering a story in Orlando," Fite wrote. "Dylan and I first met back in 2020, in Gainesville at his first station TV20 in Gainesville. From the moment I met Dylan I knew he was someone special and was the most handsome man I ever saw. Dylan and I began dating in November 2021, and we had our entire lives planned…he did everything for me."

She continued, saying she "couldn’t have asked for a better partner in life," and is "forever heartbroken."

"Dylan and I wanted nothing more than to get married and have children…the night he passed away, I researched about harvesting his sperm. I called doctor after doctor until I found one who was able to perform the procedure within the 24 hour period. The doctor was able to retrieve 8 vials of his sperm, and I am going to do IVF to have the baby we so desperately wanted to have together," Fite said. "I am devastated he can't be here for what we always wanted…Dylan would have been the best dad in the world…any contribution would be appreciated so we can still have our baby as I want to keep my Dylan's legacy alive."

The fundraiser, posted Thursday, has garnered about $2,200 so far.

According to Spectrum News 13, Lyons was allegedly shot and killed by 19-year-old career criminal Keith Melvin Moses, who was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Nathacha Augustin that morning, the shooting that killed the reporter and critically injured Spectrum News 13 photojournalist Jesse Walden that afternoon, and the later slaying of nine-year-old T'yonna Major and wounding of her mother.

Moses has reportedly been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of armed burglary. According to the outlet, he also had a "lengthy arrest history."

The arrest video released by the Orange County Sheriff's Department shows Moses attempting to resist arrest, repeatedly shouting "let me go," and "they're killing me!"

"The majority of people in Florida will just never commit a crime, because they don't want to do that, it's not in their nature. There's other people that can be deterred, maybe they'd want to do it, but they don't want to go to jail so that's enough to keep them. But you have this small element of people, that the way to protect the community is to get them off the street," said Gov. Ron DeSantis.
