Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo quietly considering a run for New York City mayor: report

According to Page Six, Cuomo has been quietly polling his chances for a successful campaign and is "leaning towards" running.

A representative told the outlet, "The Governor has made it clear he supports the mayor and there’s nothing new here.”

When asked recently about running for mayor, Cuomo said, "We need [Adams] to do his job" but that he "is flattered."

A hypothetical Slingshot's poll of 600 registered voters reported by Politico earlier this month showed that Cuomo would win an election with 22 percent of the vote. However, 35 percent of those polled said they were undecided about the 12 candidates presented.

“Another day, another misleading poll, but this one by the same pollster who got the 2021 mayoral race completely wrong,” Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy said of the poll. "Let’s stop spreading false narratives by want-to-be candidates who are not going to be on the ballot. Crime is down and jobs are up, and that’s because Mayor Adams continues to deliver for the working people of this city every day, but attempting to tear down the city’s second Black mayor for blatant political purposes is shameful.”

In November, Mayor Adams mayoral campaign came under investigation by the FBI as part of a federal probe of alleged campaign finance violations. The allegations are that his 2021 campaign conspired with the Turkish government and others to receive illegal foreign campaign donations.

Adams has maintained that he held his campaign "to the highest ethical standards."

Cuomo resigned as the governor of New York in August 2021 after he was accused of sexual misconduct. He maintained at the time that the claims had "no factual and credible basis" but that he didn't want to waste government resources fighting against them. His ouster paved the way for his Lt. Governor, Kathy Hochul, to take charge of the state and finish out his term. She later won reelection.

Cuomo was later fully cleared from the sexual harassment claims that forced him out of office.
