Haitian migrants being released into US on ‘very large scale’ despite officials saying migrants would be flown out of US

Speaking with the Associated Press on conditions of anonymity, two US officials outlines the “very, very large scale” of Haitians being released into the US.

One US official placed the number of migrants being released in the thousands.

The official said that many of those being released have been given notices to appear at an immigration office within 60 days, which requires less processing time from Border Patrol agents.

The Homeland Security Department added flights earlier this week to Tuscon, Arizona in addition to the bus routes to El Paso, Laredo, and the Rio Grand Valley for processing by Border Patrol, according to the official.

A second US official said that "large numbers of Haitians were being processed under immigration laws and not being placed on expulsion flights to Haiti that started Sunday," but could not give specific numbers, according to the Associated Press.

These releases are occurring despite the signaling from Biden Administration officials of a massive effort to expel Haitians on flights to Haiti under pandemic-related immigration policies.

"A third U.S. official not authorized to discuss operations said there were seven daily flights to Haiti planned starting Wednesday," according to the Associated Press.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reiterated the stance of the Biden Administration that those traveling to Del Rio would not succeed in their journey.

"If you come to the United States illegally, you will be returned, your journey will not succeed, and you will be endangering your life and your family's life," he said at a Monday news conference.
