Twenty-two House Republicans have signed a letter originally penned by Rep. Lance Gooden asking that a special counsel be appointed to investigate the recent election.
According to the Washington Examiner, the letter formally requests that the president order "Attorney General Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate irregularities in the 2020 election... the American people deserve a definitive resolution to the uncertainty hovering over the outcome of our election, but legitimate questions of voter fraud remain unanswered."
The letter went on to state that "the Department of Justice has been asked on multiple occasions to launch an investigation into this matter, but inaction from the Department along with public comments made by the Attorney General indicate a lack of willingness to investigate the irregularities your campaign and other elected officials across the nation have alleged."
Barr himself surprisingly went on record some days ago as claiming that there wasn't sufficient evidence of fraud found by the Justice Department that would sway the result of an election, although he had authorized federal prosecutors to investigate allegations.
"In my judgment, if only lawful votes by eligible American citizens were cast, Donald Trump won the Electoral College by a significant margin, and Congress' certification should reflect that. This election was stolen by the socialists engaging in extraordinary voter fraud and election theft measures," said Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama.
Brooks went on to say that he would object to the vote-counting process in front of the joint session of Congress, although at least one member of the Senate must also be on board by that time.
