‘It was me at UVU’: Suspect in Charlie Kirk killing gave apparent confession in Discord chat

Kirk was killed on Sept. 10 by a rifleman perched on a rooftop near where he was speaking, holding open debate with students, at Utah Valley University.

According to the Washington Post, a Discord message Robinson sent to the group said, "Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this. im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments. thanks for all the good times and laughs."

The message was sent on Thursday night just a couple hours before the suspect was detained. The message was obtained by the Washington Post through an anonymous member of the group who took a screenshot. Discord previously said that the organization found “no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord” after there was an internal investigation.

The apparent confession comes as authorities are investigating to see if there are others who knew of the assassination plot before it took place, including a probe into social media accounts which appeared to post about the assassination before it happened. Authorities are also investigating a leftist group in Utah known as "Armed Queers of Salt Lake City," as in the days following the assassination, the group wiped their social media presence.

In addition to the apparent confession, DNA that was found on the rifle believed to have been the murder weapon and is a positive match for Robinson. Robinson's DNA was also found on the towel wrapped around the weapon as well as screwdriver that was found at the scene of the crime.

Robinson was able to evade law enforcement on Wednesday as well as most of Thursday, until his father recognized the suspect from footage released by the FBI when authorities asked the public to help identify him. Robinson's father confronted Tyler about it on Thursday, and the suspect reportedly said he would rather kill himself before he was turned in.

At that point, police said that his father was able to get Robinson to see a minister who also worked with the police and US Marshals service. After meeting with the minister, he was turned into the police and was later charged with the murder of Kirk as well as other charges.

Robinson is slated to appear in court on Tuesday, and authorities have been looking into leads to determine if he acted alone in the shooting. Since he has been detained, it has been revealed that Robinson has a romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, who identifies as transgender. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has also said that Robinson was deeply involved with "leftist ideology." Although no motive has been officially determined, officials are investigating as to whether or not Robinson's romantic relationship would be part of the motive in the assassination.
