Canadian-born Carrey’s history of attacking prominent Republicans with his art goes back for quite a while now. The first one dates back to March of 2018, which was captioned: "This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!"

View on XAlthough the woman in the painting was never directly identified by Carrey, many people feel he was depicting the then White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee, who is very open about her Christian faith and does bear a resemblance to the portrait.
Perhaps the most controversial of Carrey's paintings was the one depicting what this time was clearly the face of US President Donald Trump. Trump is shown in a Roman Centurion's garb, hammering a person onto a cross.

Carrey has yet to respond to Cruz's request for a copy of the picture.
