Larry Lee Harris, of Arizona and aged 66 years, has been arrested for cutting off a caravan of National Guardsmen east of Lubbock, Texas on Monday morning and holding them up at gunpoint.
Harris followed the caravan, which was on its way to deliver supplies of the COVID vaccine to Matador, Texas east from a truck stop in Lubbock and tried more than once to run the vans off the roadway. He then blocked them and forced them to stop, turning into oncoming traffic in the process.
He got out of his vehicle, and pointed a gun at the then uniformed but unarmed Guardsmen, saying that he was a detective, and needed to search the vehicles.
According to local outlet 1011 Now, despite the fact that all 11 of the Guardsmen were uniformed at the time, he later claimed that he thought he was foiling a kidnapping in progress.
Police in Idalou, Texas arrived at the scene promptly. They were able to disarm and apprehend Harris, taking him into custody without any further incident.
Harris is now being charged with a slew of felonies in connection to the incident. These include interference with Texas military forces, impersonating a public servant, unlawful restraint, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and others.
