A suspect is in custody after he allegedly live-streamed himself randomly shooting between 40 and 50 rounds from an apartment building in Marina Del Rey, California.
Officials told CBS that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received a call around 10:15 PM of a person randomly shooting from the rooftop of the Marina 41 Apartments.
Video of the incident showed police officers hiding behind their vehicles as shots rang out. Police urged residents to take shelter as they closed surrounding streets due to an active shooter situation. The incident ended around 1:30 AM after the police took the shooter into custody.
One resident told the outlet, "It was pretty terrifying."
"We've never had any type of active shooter situation or anything at this level, and this is all residential for the most part, so it's very concerning."
Witnesses told the outlet that the shooter was described as a 41-year-old chef who specializes in "traditional Vietnamese cuisine." He was armed with an AR-style rifle and multiple handguns during the shooting.
Police have not released the identity of the shooter and one report said he was live-streaming on social media during the incident.
Police are currently searching for a motive and ask that anyone with more information contact the Marina Del Rey Sheriff's Station at 310-482-6000.
