In a new Netflix documentary, former professional women’s soccer player Megan Rapinoe claimed that playing for the women’s national team was the "worst job in the world."
"I always say it's the worst job in the world because if you do your job, then you were supposed to, and if you do one hair less, then you are gonna get lambasted for it," Rapinoe said in the documentary series Under Pressure: The US Women’s World Cup Team, the Washington Examiner reports.
2023 saw the women’s national team lose out of the FIFA World Cup, not even placing in the top three. In one match, Rapinoe missed a penalty kick.
The women’s national team had placed in the top three every game since 1991, taking the cup home in 1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019, according to NBC Sports.
At the beginning of the World Cup, she spoke out in favor of men being allowed to play on women's sports teams, saying "I see trans women as real women."
During Rapinoe’s last game in November, she tore her Achilles tendon during the sixth minute of the game, and said that this was proof that god didn’t exist.
During the post-game press conference, Rapinoe said, “I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f*cked up. It’s just f*cked up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”
