Grocery stores have become more vital than ever with social distancing and the closure of restaurants and bars amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Grocery store employees are now acting as first responders to make sure their is food stocked and available for purchase.
Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, made an executive order on Tuesday to make grocery store clerks, stockers, cleaning staff and deli workers to be considered "Emergency Tier 2" workers. This change now allows those workers with school-age children to be eligible for free-care provided by school districts.
The Minnesota Grocers Association showed their gratitude for the governor's order by thanking him via twitter, saying it will allow workers to keep doing their job.
