Daunte Wright was wanted on a weapon possession charge and skipping out on his court date before being shot by police on Sunday. Even then the 20-year-old decided to flee the scene instead of being mistakenly shot by a female officer who purportedly thought they were pulling out a taser in the heat of the moment.
An independent investigation is ongoing.
The Biden administration responded Monday by calling for a full investigation. Although the reaction in the meantime seems to be geared towards folks preparing for another “riot season” akin to what happened after the death of George Floyd last year.
That means major league sports games are cancelled. The Minnesota Timberwolves went with “community mourning.”
Here’s the official Minnesota Twins statement according to The Nation:
"Out of respect for the tragic events that occurred yesterday in Brooklyn Center, and following the additional details in this evolving situation, the Minnesota Twins have decided it is in the best interests of our fans, staff, players and community to not play today’s game. The decision was made by the Minnesota Twins after consultation with Major League Baseball, and local and state officials. Information regarding the rescheduling of today’s game, and corresponding ticket details, will be released in the near future. The Minnesota Twins organization extends its sympathies to the family of Daunte Wright."
The outlet attempted to claim fear of riots was “erroneously” tweeted out by other sportswriters, referring to this tweet by Jon Heyman.

View on XSimilar ambiguity of “best interest” is left in the statement made by the Minnesota Wild hockey team.
It all perfectly lines up with the “evolving situation” line given by the MLB. Especially given how last night alone “woke” companies like Walmart and Foot Locker had their stores looted. Even the Brooklyn Center police chief got heckled by partisan reporters for calling Sunday night's unrest in Brooklyn Center a riot.
This is in spite of the fact National Guard troops deployed in the area.
According to Neighborhood Scout: “With a crime rate of 44 per one thousand residents, Brooklyn Center has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 23. Within Minnesota, more than 96% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Brooklyn Center."
