NEW: Rust armorer says Alec Baldwin to blame for fatal shooting, gun expert contradicts actor’s account

FBI firearms expert Bryce Ziegler said that the gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust in 2021 would not fire unless the trigger was pulled. This contradicts Alec Baldwin who said the gun went off without him pulling the trigger. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has pleaded not guilty in the case, according to the Independent.

FBI firearms expert Bryce Ziegler said on Monday the gun that was fired and killed Hutchins "would not fire without pulling the trigger in the full cock position."

Gutierrez-Reed was charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of tampering with evidence in the case, both of which she pleaded not guilty to.

"I walked in, and I said, 'All right, Alec. I’m going to be your armorer. We’re going to go over how to shoot all your weapons, how to load them, how to make them safe, and we’re going to make sure that you really know — that you look like you know what you’re doing,'" Gutierrez-Reed said in a testimony last Thursday.

When Ziegler tested the weapon previously, the gun had to be hit with a mallet for it to fire without the trigger getting pulled.
