NYC teen shot in gang fight is son of high-ranking police official

The 17-year-old victim is the son of Mount Vernon Police Deputy Commissioner Jeniffer Lackard, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.

The teen, whose name has not been published, boarded a bus in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx at around 6 pm, with three other youngsters, a 10-year-old and two 12-year-olds.

After a few blocks, a pair of teenagers got on the bus. The victim allegedly flashed gang signs at the two teens as he and the accompanying youngsters were exiting the bus.

The victim then allegedly asked them for their gang affiliation, at which point he grabbed one of the teens, a 14-year-old, and attempted to drag him off the bus.

During the altercation that followed, two gunshots were fired, one of which hit the victim in the chest. He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The victim, who is affiliated with the Slutty Gang street crew, has three prior arrests, according to police sources.

Three other individuals were arrested at the scene, but have all since been released after it was determined that they had no involvement.

Two .22-caliber shell casings were recovered by police near the scene.

The victim's neighbors in Soundview were surprised to hear that the teen, who lives in the Bronx neighborhood with his Police Deputy Commissioner mother, his father, and his disabled brother, had affiliations with street gangs.

Mount Vernon police department officials have declined to comment on the incident and Deputy Commissioner Lackard could not be reached for comment.

This is not the first time that the police force in the small suburban city has faced scrutiny in recent years. In July, Martin Bailey, a former Mount Vernon police sergeant, was found guilty of harassing his ex-girlfriend, who was also a cop.
