“Breathing is a little painful. I feel bruising from the seat belt that I had just from the impact.”

Passengers who were on board the Air Canada plane that crashed into a firetruck at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday evening recounted the horrifying experience, highlighting how they had no direction after the pilot's cabin had been destroyed, taking the lives of the pilot and co-pilot of the plane.
"When we landed, everyone felt it. The plane jolted and you heard the pilot try to break, he was trying to prevent the collision that occurred," passenger Rebecca Liquori said as she recounted the experience, talking about how she did not expect a 1-hour flight to end up the way it did.

"A couple seconds later, it was just a very loud boom, and everybody just jolted out of their seats, people hit their heads, people were bleeding. I'm asking everyone around me if they're okay. And then one of the passengers screamed to me, ‘please open the exit door,’ And I was like, ‘Of course.’ A lot of people slid off of the wing of the plane getting out," she added.

By the time Liquori was able to get off the plane, first responders were on the scene, and she said that at that point she and others were able to see the extent of the damage to the plane that had taken place. "Breathing is a little painful. I feel bruising from the seat belt that I had just from the impact, and the seat belt being just on my skin ... I would have never pictured a one-hour flight that I've done countless times because I have family that lives in Montreal, ending like this."

Jack Cabot, another passenger who was aboard the plane when it landed, told reporters, "We went down for a regular landing, we came down pretty hard, we immediately hit something, it was chaos from there about five seconds later," passenger Jack Cabot said. "Everyone was hunkered down, everyone was screaming, we didn't have any directions because the pilots' cabin was destroyed. So, someone said, 'Let's get the emergency exit, let's get the door and all jump out' and that's exactly what we did."
The crash took the lives of the two pilots, and there were 41 others on the plane and in the fire truck who were injured. Leading up to the crash, an air traffic controller had told the truck to stop but was unable to prevent the crash. The air traffic controller later said, "We were dealing with an emergency earlier, and I messed up."
