It is not clear how badly the flight attendant was hurt in the process, according to the New York Post. The jet had been given the greenlight to land on the runway at LaGuardia at the same time as when a fire truck was crossing the runway.
The aircraft hit the truck at around 24 miles per hour. Audio that was released of the air traffic control tower had one controller appearing to admit guilt in the situation. “Stop, stop, stop, stop,” the controller yelled repeatedly to the truck moments before the crash. “Truck 1, stop, stop, stop. Stop, Truck 1. Stop.”
“Jazz 646, I see you collided with the vehicle. Just hold position. I know you can’t move. Vehicles are responding to you now,” the air traffic controller later said. The audio also revealed the reaction of a Frontier pilot who said, “We got stuff in progress for that, man, that wasn’t good to watch."
"We were dealing with an emergency earlier and I messed up," the controller said.
“No, you did the best you could," the pilot responded. The plane had around 72 passengers on board when the incident took place. Video and pictures showed the plane's nose pointed up in the air and the truck strewn to the side at the scene of the crash.
What led up to the crash is being investigated.
