Seven people were killed and one seriously injured after a plane crashed at a Maine airport on Sunday. A preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration said that the aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 600 bearing the registration number N10KJ, "crashed under unknown circumstances on departure, came to rest inverted and caught fire."
Bangor Police Sergeant Jeremy Brock said that multiple emergency crews, including the 101st Maine Air National Guard and fire crews from neighboring towns, responded at around 7:45 pm on Sunday to reports of an aircraft crash at the airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident. A Monday press release from the board stated that a team of investigators is assembling and is expected to arrive on scene "shortly." The team will be tasked with documenting the scene, examining the aircraft, and recovering it for further examination.
The crash came as a massive winter storm swept through the region. The Bangor International Airport will remain closed until at least noon on Wednesday as a result of the crash.
Per the Associated Press, the plane was registered to a company with the same address as Houston-based law firm Arnold & Itkin LLP, a prominent personal injury law firm.
The firm has previously funded Democrat PACs and causes, including donating $300,000 to the left-wing First Tuesday PAC in 2024, which had also received significant funding from Democrat megadonor George Soros and Soros-backed entities. The PAC created a multimillion-dollar ad campaign that features messages such as "Stop MAGA Republicans. Do Something Good. Vote for Every Democrat," per the Texas Voice.
The firm’s founders, Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin, also founded the Texas Democratic Voices organization in 2024, which aims to "enhance civic engagement and promote democratic values in Harris County and Texas through advocacy, education, and community outreach, fostering active participation in the political process and supporting policies aligned with the Democratic Party."
Arnold and Itkin also donated $10 million to the Texans for Truth and Liberty PAC, which was founded by the firm’s founders. Both Arnold and Itkin voted in the 2024 Democratic primary. The PAC, however, appears to be focused mainly on Republican primaries. Large donations from the PAC went to GOP members of the Texas House who voted alongside Democrats on an amendment that would have gutted a bill aimed at blocking abusive litigation practices.
