Philly mayor ‘looking forward’ to leaving office following July 4 shooting
“I don’t enjoy Fourth of July, I don’t enjoy the Democratic National Convention, I didn’t enjoy the NFL draft, I’m waiting for something bad to happen all the time.”

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney spoke to reporters after the shooting of two police officers at the city's official Independence Day celebrations, saying "I'll be happy when I'm not here, when I'm not mayor and I can enjoy some stuff."
"Everything we have in the city over the last seven years, I worry about," said Kenney. "I don't enjoy Fourth of July, I don't enjoy the Democratic National Convention, I didn't enjoy the NFL draft, I'm waiting for something bad to happen all the time."

Monday's shooting took place near the Welcome America Festival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway during a celebratory event that had tens of thousands in attendance.
This is the location of the city's annual celebrations, marking the holiday that has its roots in Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence was written and the Constitutional Congress was formed and did its work creating the nation.
After shots rang out and people realized they weren't fireworks, chaos ensued, as everyone stampeded away from the scene.
The two officers who were shot were later released from hospital.
"Weather was beautiful. Concert was beautiful," Kenney said of the evening, "but we live in America and we have the Second Amendment, and we have the Supreme Court of the United States telling everybody they can carry a gun whenever they want."
"We have to come to grips with what this country is about right now," he added. "We had a beautiful day out there today except for some nitwit either shooting from a window or shooting from somewhere who has a gun and probably shouldn't have had it."
"If I had the ability to take care of guns I would," Kenney said, "but the legislature won't let us, the US Congress won't let us, the Governor does the best that he can, our Attorney General does the best that he can, but this is a gun country."
Kenney suggested that America was one of the "least safest" nations on Earth.
