Pro-Palestinian activists confront pro-Israel demonstrators outside New Jersey synagogue
Dozens of anti-Israel activists waving Palestinian and trans flags were met on West Englewood Avenue by over 1,000 Israel supporters waving Israeli and American flags.
Anti-Israel activists underestimated the response of Teaneck, New Jersey’s Jewish community to a planned protest against a Jewish burial organization and were met by over 1,000 counter-protestors waving American and Israeli flags. When they were unable to gain access to the the Bnai Yeshurun synagoue in Teaneck, NJ, they staged a prayer in the street.
On Monday night, the violent anti-Israel activist group Within Our Lifetime (WOL) and American Muslims for Palestine New Jersey planned to protest the ZAKA first aid and Jewish burial preparation organization at an event at Bnai Yeshurun synagogue in Teaneck, New Jersey. Members of the humanitarian group were coming to share what they had witnessed firsthand during the October 7 massacre, which was carried out by Palestinian terrorists that killed over 1,200 people and took another 250 as hostages. The synagogue is in a heavily residential neighborhood that has a massive Jewish population.
WOL claimed responsibility for vandalizing the New York Public Library in Manhattan during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, targeted the Rockefeller Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, and is responsible for numerous antisemitic incidents in the New York area.
On Sunday, in response to news of the planned protest, the Rabbinical Council of Bergen County and Bergen County Jewish Action Committee said in a statement obtained by The Post Millennial that the “protest is a violation of all that we hold sacred.”
"First and foremost, it is a desecration of the memory of those who died at the hands of genocidal terrorists...second it is a brazen attack on every member of the Jewish community, as well as the twelve hundred kedoshim [holy ones] of October 7th—men, women, and children—were killed simply for being Jewish."
RCBC and BJAC said that the planned action by the antisemitic protestors was "yet another attack on our holy spaces of worship," referring to an incident on March 10 where anti-Israel activists targeted an Israeli real estate conference at the Congregation Keter Torah Synagogue.
Teaneck, a town with a heavy concentration of Jewish residents, has repeatedly been targeted by anti-Israel activists since the October 7 massacre.
RCBC and BJAC called for a peaceful counter-protest if local authorities couldn’t prevent the antisemitic rally from proceeding.
On Monday night at approximately 6 pm, dozens of anti-Israel activists waving Palestinian and Trans flags were met on West Englewood Avenue by over 1,000 Israel supporters waving Israeli and American flags.
As night fell, anti-Israel activists could be seen on video leaving the area as Israel supporters sang the Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah, Israel’s National Anthem.
