Jean-Pierre said that Biden has been “very clear” for a long time that he thinks a border wall does not work.

On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled by reporters over President Biden's claim"> that the wall along the United States-Mexico border doesn't work.
Members of the press asked why the commander-in-chief had contradicted members of his own administration, who have stated that a barrier is necessary, and questioned why he was violating his campaign promise by allowing a section of the wall to be built.

Jean-Pierre replied by noting that the funds for additional segments of the border wall were appropriated by Congress in Fiscal Year 2019 under Republican leadership, and that the DHS is required by law to use the money for that purpose.
"We believe that there are better effective ways of moving forward to secure our border," she said, adding that Biden has been "very clear" for a long time that he thinks a border wall does not work.

"You want us to break the law?" Jean-Pierre replied, though she did not explain exactly which laws would be broken.

View on X"If the border wall is ineffective, why is the DHS secretary saying that it's necessary to prevent unlawful entries into the United States?" a reporter asked, a question that was repeated numerous times during the briefing.
Each time it was asked, Jean-Pierre simply stated that Biden did not want a wall before rambling about issues tangential to the matter at hand.

Doocy went one step further, asking, "if you have to build a border wall, but you don’t think that it’s gonna work then once it’s done, are you just going to tear it down?"
Jean-Pierre refused to get into hypotheticals, and stated once again that the administration was legally obligated to continue construction.
