Rhode Island Democrat lawmaker arrested for keying car of driver with anti-Biden sticker

A video posted to social media showed Miller claiming that he did not key the vehicle.

“He was blocking my way, saying I scratched his car, I didn’t scratch his car,” Miller said. “I’m a state senator, I think he’d recognize. I think he’s one of the gun nuts.”

"I don’t even know any of the senators to be honest," another man in the video said.

A police officer made a visit to the state senator’s house, telling Miller that there was a video of the incident.

Cranston police reported that the alleged vandalism occurred around 3:30 p.m. According to the police, Miller said he believed the victim was part of a group of “gun nuts” that he claims are stalking him at the State House. He also alleged that he has been threatened by the vehicle’s owner.

Miller was ultimately arrested for a misdemeanor vandalism charge.

“Nobody is above the law, including those who make and enforce the laws,” Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist announced in a Friday news release. “The officers who handled this investigation did so with fairness, integrity, and without preferential treatment.”

Upon being asked by NBC 10’s Gene Valicenti if he had swapped out his clothing in order to avoid being spotted by police, Miller answered, “I took my jacket off, that’s not against the law.”

This does not mark the first time Miller has been seen engaging in controversial activities. A video captured in the past showed him telling a man, “go f*ck yourself” after he said to Miller, “the Second Amendment shall not be infringed, you people need to understand that.”

The state senator has been let out on $1,000 and personal recognizance and is set to appear in court on July 18. At the recommendation of his attorney, he has refused to comment on the matter further.

Joe Powers, a Rhode Island GOP Chairman, has publicly called for Miller to leave office in the wake of the arrest.

“This behavior is unbecoming of anyone holding a leadership position,” Powers wrote on Twitter. “State Senator Joshua Miller has proven once again the he does not have the composure required to represent every constituent in his district and must resign immediately.”
