South Dakota state Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg had a car accident the night before last. Initially he claimed that it was a deer that he hit, but a body was found yesterday morning.
The state Governor Kristi Noem held a press conference last night where she announced some of the details of the incident.
According to Yahoo! News, the accident happened in the center of the state, near the town of Highmore, SD. Local law enforcement is still working on getting a positive identification of the deceased.
Apparently Ravnsborg was driving home Saturday evening from a state dinner on Saturday night, when he struck what he initially thought or claimed was a deer. He was not injured in the crash, and the vehicle was still in driveable condition, so he notified authorities of the incident and continued home.
In Ravnsborg’s own words, he’s “shocked and filled with sorrow following the events of last night. As Gov. Noem stated, I am fully cooperating with the investigation and I fully intend to continue to do so moving forward. At this time I offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family."
Ravnsborg’s spokesperson claims that Ravnsborg was not drinking before getting behind the wheel, and authorities are investigating this and other details of the accident.
