Amanda MacGregor crucified Shakespeare as irrelevant to the 2021 curriculum in the January issue of the School Library Journal.
This news was brought to the public eye beyond the site’s paywall thanks to the spotlight of the Daily Mail.
The charges laid out against Shakespeare include the usual cacophony of “misogyny, racism, homophobia, classism, anti-Semitism.” Which are treated as separate issues and not taken into consideration with the dated nature of the texts themselves.
We learn that MacGregor’s tirade against the acclaimed playwright is symbolic of a widespread revolt by English teachers against his classic literature.
Shakespeare has long stood as a symbolic representation of the “racist patriarchy” of English literature , and activists like Lorena German of the National Council of Teachers of English Anti-Racism Committee have long worked to topple him.
"Everything about the fact that he was a man of his time is problematic about his plays. We cannot teach Shakespeare responsibly and not disrupt the ways people are characterized and developed."
This far-left assault against public education has been ongoing. In related news, a California school board member protested against reopening during the pandemic. They claim in-person learning in of itself is “slavery” and “a very white supremacist ideology.”
