Keith Self, a Republican Congressman from North Texas, was the target of a 17-year old boy from McKinney, Texas. The teen was arrested by the FBI.
The teen, who is not named as he is a minor, was arrested on Oct. 5 after purchasing a gun, as reported by local news outlet WFAA. In addition to the assassination plot, he allegedly also wanted to conduct a terrorist attack on behalf of ISIS in North Texas.

Self posted about the incident yesterday, saying how grateful he is to the FBI and law enforcement. He wrote, “Our Founders believed this country was worth the sacrifice. I served 25 years in the military because defending freedom was worth the sacrifice. This only strengthens my resolve. I will not back down.”

Self introduced a non-binding resolution in Congress last month denouncing Sharia law and opposing its implementation in this country. He has previously led legislation opposing Sharia law and Islamic extremism. US Representative Chip Roy and Keith Self co-founded the “Sharia-Free America Caucus,” with a stated mission, “to oppose the influence of Sharia law in the United States and assert its incompatibility with the U.S. Constitution and Western values.”
A new mosque was recently approved in Self’s district that has been the subject of debate. When Self was asked whether his opposition to radical Islam may be the reason he was targeted, he said, “If it’s ISIS related, you kind of have to believe that. I can’t prove that. I don’t know that for sure. But you have to follow the [old saying], if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.”
