Her husband, 3-year-old girl, and 10-month-old boy suffered stab wounds and were treated at the hospital.
A Texas mother has been arrested on attempted murder charges after reportedly stabbing her husband and two young children in their home early on Tuesday. Her husband called 911, saying that he had been stabbed in the head.
The woman is identified as 37-year-old Holly Leeann Flores. Her husband, 34, whose name has not been released, called 911 around 4:20 am and asked police to come to the 1200 block of Daylily Drive in the small town of Northlake, north of Fort Worth, TX, according to the New York Post.
Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford reported that police arriving at the home found a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy, both with stab wounds to their chests.
The husband was attempting to move the children to another room while his wife was trying to stab him, according to the 911 report. The husband and children were hospitalized, and all three are expected to survive.
Flores was initially treated for a “small cut on her chest area” and received stitches at the hospital, then was taken to Denton County jail.
She has been preliminarily charged with two counts of attempted capital murder and one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Chief Crawford stated that the police had been called to the home around five times this year, starting in March, with most of the visits for welfare concerns.
He stated, “I don’t want to say anything out of context right now, so some of that information will probably come out later,” and added, “It’s very heartbreaking when we have to respond to a traumatic event such as this.”
There have been numerous reports of cases of mothers murdering or endangering their young children in the news in recent years. In upstate New York in June, a mother and grandmother drugged and/or stabbed 4 children in an alleged murder/suicide case. A mother in New York City was recently found not guilty of murdering her two young children by drowning them in a bathtub in 2022, using a postpartum depression defense.
The most high-profile recent case of a mother allegedly killing her children is the Lindsay Clancy case. Last week, a Massachusetts judge struck down a motion for her to be found not guilty of murdering her three children after Clancy’s lawyer argued that there was a lack of sufficient evidence to prove that Clancy was the one to kill her children and that she should be held criminally responsible. During the trial, her lawyers tried to use a postpartum psychosis defense, which ended in a mistrial. Clancy remains at Tewksbury State Hospital.
