Trans city councilor confronts Star Wars store owner over ‘transphobic’ sign

The five minute-long confrontation between Aberdeen trans city council member Tiesa Meskis and Sucher & Sons Star Wars Shop owner Don Sucher got heated when Sucher asked Meskis to leave the store.

"Trans women are women," Meskis, formerly known as Nathan Kennedy, yelled outside the store. "You're nuts," Sucher yelled, firing back at Meskis.

Meskis accused Sucher of being a bigot, but the elderly store owner defended the shop's sign and said he doesn't care about her feelings.

"I don't give a f— about feelings anymore," Sucher said in an interview with KING 5 News. "I went to Vietnam to fight for all this sh*t. Do you think I care about some f—ing feelings? Absolutely not!"

The sign referenced Dr. Seuss getting "cancelled" and stated, "Just out Dr. Seuss's new book: If you are born with a d*ck, you are not a chick."

The owner of Sucher & Sons Star Wars Shop said that individuals who identify as transgender "don't have a clue" and need to be confronted.

For the past 25 years, Sucher has a built a reputation in the city of being known as the "wacky" owner of Sucher & Sons Star Wars Shop.

During the height of government-issued lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the country, Sucher displayed anti-Governor Jay Inslee signs as well as anti-mask and COVID-19 survival rates.

"What he wrote there was so demeaning and so dismissive of who I am, who any trans woman is," Meskis said in an interview with KING 5 News.

"We are people. We are who we are and we all want to be accepted in our community," Meskis added.

Meskis plans to come back to protest in front of the store with her supporters on Saturday. However, Sucher plans to grab his own supporters that day to back him up. Antifa groups have been mobilizing support online to rally behind Meskis.

Chehalis River Mutual Aid Network, an autonomous direct action group, told its followers to bring signage in support of the trans community. "Other creative acts of resistance are always encouraged," the Antifa account tweeted. "Give Ol' Don a ring, stop by and let him know what you think of his actions, let Google know, Yelp, Trip Advisor, whatever the hell Foursquare is ... You get it."
